Hollies tend to grow best in an acid, rich, evenly moist yet well-drained (meaning not soggy) soil. They will also do better if protected from wind, especially during the winter. They do better in full sun, although partial shade is also acceptable. Unfortunately, they are naturally very slow growing. Be very careful to keep them mulched and watered, especially in the fall up until the ground freezes.
