Citrus trees don’t require major structural pruning. There is no need to prune a citrus tree unless a branch is about to break. Lemon trees, for example, tend to set fruit at the tips of thin branches; this may overload and break them. To correct this tendency cut all laterals in half and pinch back new growth several times during the season.
