Power Cultivators

The electric cultivator is like a mini rotary tiller. The motor is above the blades at the end of a 4-foot shaft. Use this tool in soft soil—it is not powerful enough to turn new soil.

The gas-powered cultivator is a two-wheeled machine with a motor housed above the blades. It has several attachments, including a plow and cultivator tines. It can be used like a rotary tiller, although it is less powerful. If you have a large garden, this tool can be well worth buying.

The instruction manual for the particular tool covers its maintenance and repair. Follow its advice. However, all power cultivators should be wiped or hosed off after use and lightly oiled. Since oil attracts dirt, do not use an excessive amount.
